Q. What is an independent school and what are the advantages of an independent school education?
A. Independent schools are guided by their mission school philosophy and privately supported by tuition, charitable donations, and endowment revenue. Personalized attention, safe environment, innovative curriculum, and the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities are among the many advantages of an independent education. Students strive to do well and making good grades and good decisions are part of the school culture.
Q. What is Heritage Hall’s enrollment and how many students are there in each grade?
A. Heritage Hall has 850 students in grades preschool through grade 12. Each class in the Upper School averages 85-90 students each.
Q. Is Heritage Hall a faith-based school?
A. No, Heritage Hall is not a faith-based school and our students do not attend chapel. We welcome students of all faiths and we attempt to be sensitive to all religious customs and holidays. While we do not provide religious education, we do offer a moral education.
Q. Does your school require uniforms?
A. No. There is, however, a dress code for each division, to which all students must adhere. Our school was founded as a non-uniform school and has remained one to date.
Q. Does Heritage Hall provide transportation?
A. No. Many families form carpools. Each division attempts to provide assistance to families who are attempting to find a carpool group at the beginning of each school year.
Q. What is the student/teacher ratio at Heritage Hall?
A. The average number of students in each classroom is 15; there are, however, some sections of 18. In the upper grades, where there are more honors and AP level choices along with more options for each subject determined by interest, the student/teacher ratio decreases to an average of 13:1.
Q. When can I visit Heritage Hall?
A. Heritage Hall holds an open house for each division in January or February. See the Important Dates page for details. An individual tour and/or visitation days can be scheduled through the admission office.
Q. If we apply for financial aid, will that impact the school’s admission decision?
A. Our admission process is need-blind and is completely separate from the financial aid application.
Q. Are there competitive sports at Heritage Hall, and how does my child get involved?
A. Heritage Hall is a member of the OSSAA and, therefore, participates along with public schools for regional, district, and state championships.
Q. Is there a summer school program at Heritage Hall?
A. Yes. Summer at the Hall is primarily offered by Heritage Hall teachers along with professional experts outside of the immediate staff. Generally the classes focus on fine arts, athletics, and academic enrichment. A summer catalog is mailed to each home during the spring semester.
