Upper School

Ensuring the well-being of students is a top priority in the Upper School, as well-being is believed to be pivotal in improving academic outcomes, school retention, and student engagement. Studies show a connection between positive school experiences and positive long-term outcomes, such as being less likely to engage in risk-taking behaviors and a strong sense of preparedness for their personal aspirations
Supportive Relationships + Well-Being Skills
Students greatly benefit from supportive relationships at school and direct well-being education. The Upper School Advisory and Peer Leadership programs meet both of these needs.
  • Advisory: In the Upper School Advisory program, students are partnered with a faculty advisor who mentors them throughout their Upper School years. Students also meet weekly with their advisor in small peer groups (called “advisories”) for conversations on well-being as well as games, community service projects, and parties.
  • Peer Leadership: Peer Leaders are seniors who are not only the visible student leaders on campus but serve as mentors and role models for other students. The leaders study topics on self-awareness, relationships, and leadership and have many opportunities to lead and serve. In weekly meetings with 8th and 9th graders, the leaders teach lessons they’ve prepared on adjusting to high school, mindset, skill building, and well-being. The leaders also create a year-long individual service project as well as direct an all-school service week for a selected cause in the spring.

The Upper School offers multiple programs and opportunities for students to dig deeper into their interests, challenge themselves, explore what concerns them, and look beyond themselves in service to the greater community.
