Heritage Hall Welcomes Dr. Vicki Schaeffer as Director of College Counseling

Heritage Hall is pleased to announce Dr. Vicki Schaeffer as the school's new Director of College Counseling. A college preparatory school, Heritage Hall is committed to preparing students for success at the university level; its college counseling program represents the culmination of that commitment.

Schaeffer comes to Heritage Hall from The University of Oklahoma, where she served as Director of Recruitment for the Honors College, as well as an Assistant Professor in the Honors College and in the College of Liberal Studies. Schaeffer also brings a wealth of experience in secondary education, having served as Associate Director of College Counseling and Upper Division Vocal Music Director during her nine years at Casady School, where she was awarded the Mike Monroney Teaching Fellowship for excellence in classroom teaching and outstanding character.

A native of Salem, Ohio, Schaeffer earned a doctorate in music from Indiana University (Bloomington) with a double major in organ performance and church music. She also holds a master's in music from Kent State University and a bachelor's in music education from Mount Union College.

Schaeffer takes over the reins of Heritage Hall's College Counseling office from outgoing Director of College Counseling Marshall Gray, who has accepted a position as the founding Director of College Counseling at The New School in Fayetteville, Ark. Endorsing his successor, Gray stated, "When I first met Vicki, I was working as a college admissions professional. I was recruiting her students and reading her letters of recommendation. In my time at Heritage Hall, she has been recruiting my students and reading my letters of recommendation. While I will greatly miss Heritage Hall, I am confident that I am leaving our students in the most capable of hands with Dr. Vicki Schaeffer, an expert in her field who brings extensive experience on both sides of the college admission process."

Tasked with bidding one Charger farewell while welcoming another, Headmaster Guy Bramble commented, "When Betsy Horn moved from Director of College Counseling into other administrative duties, it was her recommendation that brought Marshall Gray to Heritage Hall. He has proven to be a very worthy successor, effective and nearly infallible in his role. Marshall has been an outstanding representative of the school and will be missed. We wish him and his family nothing but the best in this exciting opportunity.

"Even as we will miss Marshall's resplendent intellect and broad knowledge of the evolution of the college admission process, we are confident that we couldn't have found a more talented or appealing successor. I have no doubt that Dr. Schaeffer's experience and guidance will strengthen what is already an exceptional college counseling program. I'm even more confident that she will enrich the entire Heritage Hall community through her multi-faceted involvement with our students."

A teacher at heart, Schaeffer looks forward to the daily give and take of relationships with high school students and to helping prepare them for college life. "I am thrilled to be joining the Heritage Hall community. I look forward to working closely with the students and their families to arrive at one of the most significant decisions of their lives with confidence." she said.
