Faculty/Staff Participate in ADL's "A World of Difference Institute"

On Monday, October 14, as part of Heritage Hall’s ongoing commitment to expand diversity awareness, promote inclusivity, and broaden the educational experience of all students, the School’s faculty and staff participated in the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) A World of Difference® Institute.

The program – used by schools, universities, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations throughout the United States and abroad – was designed to build an understanding of the value and benefits of diversity, improve intergroup relations, and address all forms of bigotry.

During Monday’s training, facilitators from the Anti-Defamation League facilitated interactive group discussions on culture and communication, understanding /deconstructing the language of prejudice, examining bias/microaggressions, and exploring bias/strategies on dealing with prejudice constructively.

Following the in-service day sessions, Heritage Hall Assistant Head of School Nick Carter reflected on how diversity education aligns with the School’s emerging positive education initiative. “Positive education promotes a flourishing community in which each person is valued and all cultures unite to become ‘us.’ Monday’s workshops remind us of a foundational element that allows all the other elements of positive culture to grow.”
