HHAA Presents 2021 Distinguished Faculty Award to Nurse Jenny

The Heritage Hall Alumni Association (HHAA) has honored School Nurse Jenny Campbell, RN, as the recipient of its 2021 Distinguished Faculty Award.

Presented annually during the School’s Faculty Recognition Luncheon, the award recognizes a current faculty or staff member who has exhibited dedication and commitment to inspiring and educating lifelong learners. Campbell joins an impressive list of past recipients: Kelly Allen, Craig Brown ’78, Keith Cassell, Chris Gfeller, Betsy Horn, Cathie Perry, and Dr. John Powell.

In presenting the award on behalf of the Association, HHAA Vice President Ashley Stark Ford ’02 noted Campbell’s diligence during a year unlike any other in school history.

“As we all know, this past year was unprecedented. Navigating daily life as a person was hard enough, but it presented unique challenges for both healthcare workers and teachers. At Heritage Hall, a risk mitigation task force co-chaired by Nurse Jenny was developed to plan a safe return to campus. As a result of their efforts, Heritage Hall was able to stay open the entire school year. While this result was a group effort, it would not have been possible without our school nurse. From keeping track of virtual learners and teachers and those in quarantine to providing everyone in our community tips on staying safe and healthy, Nurse Jenny went above and beyond what I’m sure she initially thought she was signing up for when accepting this role,” Ford observed.

Excerpts from Campbell’s nominators offered the following additional insights:

  • “Nurse Jenny has done an incredible job navigating the uncharted territory that is COVID-19. During the 2020-21 school year, she took a personal interest in each family’s situation and made tough decisions for the good of the entire Heritage Hall campus. I am incredibly thankful for her dedication to our school and the greater ‘family’ this community represents.”
  • “This past year was chaotic and scary for all of us. Nurse Jenny went above and beyond to help ensure the safety of all students, faculty, and staff.”
  • “When I got COVID, Nurse Jenny was kind, informed, and helpful. I’m not sure how this past year would have gone without her, but I know she played a huge role in getting us all through it.”

Ford, who is also a registered nurse, concluded her remarks by stating, “As nurses, we make a pledge to maintain and elevate the standard of our profession and to devote ourselves to the welfare of those committed to our care – Nurse Jenny has done that and more. I’m honored to present the Heritage Hall Alumni Association’s 2021 Distinguished Faculty Award to Jenny Campbell.”

Visibly moved by the recognition, Campbell expressed her gratitude to the Association and to the school community.

“What an honor! I am so thankful to Heritage Hall for the opportunities I have had to learn, lead, and serve. I am also thankful to and proud of our community for taking such good care of each other. I feel very appreciated and fortunate to be a part of the Charger family,” Campbell said.
