Prepare for the June 12 and/or the July 17 National ACT Tests. These courses also prepare highly motivated students for the Pre-ACT testing that typically takes place during the freshman and the sophomore years. In addition, the courses help build confidence and skills sought by younger teens (rising 7th and 8th graders) who take the ACT as a part of the Duke-Tip application process. Students are introduced to the real test format, different styles of questions, strategies, and time-saving techniques for each section of the test.

Content teaching (for carryover into current and future school courses) is highly stressed; we do not simply focus on test-taking “tricks” in this prep course. To maximize scores, we provide supplementary materials and presentations reviewing math, science reasoning, reading comprehension, rhetorical skills, word knowledge, usage/mechanics of grammar, and an optional essay (homework packet -- with an evaluation provided with a timely student submission). Students will practice, check, discuss errors, and compute each section score for a full ACT test. We use a different test for each course.

Academic Benefits:
  • Gain strategies that are helpful for any standardized test
  • Review skills and content that are valuable in everyday school courses using this content-method teaching style
  • Some students meet goals that qualify for various scholarship opportunities
