Heritage Hall Announces Challenge Artist Program

Heritage Hall's commitment to the arts has never been greater, as evidenced by the School's Challenge Artist program to be implemented in the fall of 2016. The new program will provide a concentrated arts education experience for students with a marked passion for a creative discipline who are exceptionally dedicated to their own artistic development.
Patterned after the School's successful Challenge Scholar program, which provides a demanding learning experience for students who display a strong aptitude and high interest level in several academic areas, the Challenge Artist program provides arts-minded students a "concentration of courses and other offerings that will comprise an accelerated experience for students who desire it and are committed to achieving it," explained Heritage Hall Fine Arts Department Chair Jay Ferguson '96.
Challenge Artist is a three-year program available to rising sophomores and juniors who have satisfactory prerequisites. While the specific requirements of this distinction will vary based on a student's chosen discipline, in most cases they will include six fine arts credits, extracurricular activities, arts-focused community service, specific GPA requirements, and a capstone project. Each Challenge Artist student will work closely with a faculty mentor who will collaborate with the student to design a program and monitor the student's progress.
Along with enriching the educational experience of current students, Admission Director Elizabeth Gillum said numerous prospective students and their families will find the Challenge Artist Program an attractive addition to the School's many offerings. "Having a program specifically designed for our most talented student artists exemplifies the importance Heritage Hall places on the arts, and further illustrates the School's continuing commitment to enhance and develop programs that best meet the needs of our students."
"It is our hope that this program will provide new generations of visual and performing artists the best possible tools to realize their full potential," stated Ferguson.
