Performing Arts to Present Sensory-Friendly Performance of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"
Over the past decade, Heritage Hall’s Performing Arts department has earned acclaim for its technically, visually, and musically stunning adaptations of classics such as Beauty and the Beast and Les Misérables. On February 21-24, Heritage Hall will add to its impressive list of productions with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The classic musical, based on the story of Joseph from the Bible’s Book of Genesis, is loved by dreamers of all ages.
In addition to four scheduled performances, Heritage Hall, in collaboration with the Oklahoma Autism Network, will present a sensory-friendly adaptation for families impacted by autism Saturday, February 23 at 3:00 pm. While the story and acting won’t be altered, modifications for the special performance will include open seating to allow for movement during the performance; reduced sound level, especially for startling or loud sounds; reduction or elimination of strobe effects or lighting focused on the audience; and keeping the house lights on at a low level.
“Three years ago, we partnered with Oklahoma Autism Network to bring their families Seussical. It was an incredibly uplifting and rewarding experience for everyone involved and we are thrilled to provide families impacted by autism another opportunity to enjoy the theatre,” said Jay Ferguson, Heritage Hall Fine Arts Department Chair.
Tickets for the sensory-friendly performance (February 23, 3:00 pm) are available at no charge. Visit the events section on okautism.org to register. Other showtimes are February 21-23, 7:00 pm, and February 24, 3:00 pm; tickets ($10) are available for purchase at the Middle School office during regular school hours (7:30 am to 4:00 pm) or at the door. All performances will be held in the Howard Theatre in the Heritage Hall Middle School.
