Upper School Event Focuses On Well-being

By Wesley Jansen '21

Last week, Heritage Hall Upper School students participated in what will, hopefully, become the newest Charger tradition – De-Stress Fest. Sponsored by the Counseling Office, Student Council, and the Peer Leadership class, De-Stress Fest focused on well-being and relieving stress that occurs around the holiday season.

The week included daily de-stressing activities during community time – ranging from free hot chocolate to yoga to a holiday sweater contest – that gave everyone an opportunity to release some energy and get in a few laughs. A card decorating station where students could make holiday cards for our friends at The Fountains at Canterbury added a service component to the event.

Asked about the idea behind De-Stress Fest, Upper School Counselor and event organizer Samantha Kobs replied, "Initially, we wanted to find fun ways (within the boundaries of the School’s COVID protocols) to help ease student stress levels in the midst of preparing for final exams. Although exams for this semester ended up being canceled, we thought it would be good to move forward with our plans given the stress that surrounds the holidays and the overall stress that many have felt this school year."

As students look forward to Winter Break, De-Stress Fest provided a welcome end of the semester boost. THANK YOU to everyone who made this event possible.
