Academic Bowl Team 4A Area Champs

Following district and regional championship runs, the Heritage Hall Upper School Academic Bowl team added to its hardware last weekend with a 4A Area Academic Bowl Tournament crown. The win completed a district, regional, and area sweep to qualify the team for the state tournament on Saturday, February 6, at Rose State College.

In securing the area title, the Chargers averaged an impressive 315 points per round (nearly 100 more than their opponents) to defeat Elk City, Woodward, and Tuttle. Coach Robert Ring credits his team’s success to their well-roundedness and drive.

“We have a good team blend this year. Katie Curran ’21 knows pop culture, sports, music, and current events, as well as the academic areas. Sarah Curran ’21 is solid with history, art, and a wide range of other academic categories. Eli Siatkowski ’21 excels with science, culture, and food, as well as academics. Neha Kohdali ’24 is strong in math, science, literature, geography, spelling, world cultures, religions – you name it! I'm amazed at their range of knowledge. Everyone seems to have their sweet spot, so we do not have to rely on one person – it is a real team effort,” observed Ring.

This year will mark the Chargers’ fourth state tournament appearance in the program’s short five-year history. Looking ahead to the final competition of the season, Ring said, “It is fun to watch three senior girls and a freshman girl play the game at such a high level. They have accomplished great things this year, and I am confident that they will continue to shine at state. I wish more people could view the matches, but because of COVID-19 we can not have an audience.”

Onward, Chargers!
