Frightfully Fun Halloween at The Hall

by Gary Smith '22

In the week leading up to Halloween, Heritage Hall Upper School students got into the holiday spirit with engaging “Halloweek” activities ranging from a monster mash to a pumpkin decorating contest.

The Student Council (StuCo)-sponsored event got off to a sweet start on Monday with trick-or-treating, during which StuCo members passed out candy to students and teachers. The treats continued Tuesday with a bake sale and monster mash; the Just Dance dance video game had students grooving to classic Halloween songs.

On Thursday, contestants in the Upper School’s Spooky Feud (Halloween-themed Family Feud) competed to name the most popular answers to survey questions such as “name a popular Halloween movie” and “name a least-favorite Halloween candy.” Ultimately, the freshmen were the game-winners, followed by the juniors, seniors, and sophomores.

Upper and Middle School students demonstrated their creativity with pumpkin contests, which resulted in an array of scary, funny, and charming pumpkins. In the Upper School, freshman Maddi Nowell won the scary pumpkin category, and senior Dylan Beeson took the creative category. In Middle School, the top prizes went to the following advisories: Ms. Walker, grand prize; Ms. Carlin, scariest; Ms. Brown, most original; and Mr. Smith, most adorable.

Of course, Halloween would not be complete without costumes. A week of dress-up days had Lower School students getting “Comfy Cozy,” showing off their “Bow Ties and Neckties,” and mixing “Polka Dots and Stripes.” The Middle School Character Day and Upper School costume contest featured everything from rock stars to favorite foods.

Following a festive week of activities, students and faculty alike were ready to embrace a spooktacular holiday weekend.
