Head Boy's Tennis Coach Brian Bogert Wins Top Honors

By Saif Salim ’20

Heritage Hall has always taken pride in its well-rounded education model. The School focuses not only on academics, but also on the development of life skills – including critical thinking and problem solving, organization and time management, leadership and service. The School celebrates successes in all areas, including academics, extracurriculars such as debate, Model UN, Academic Bowl, MathCounts, the arts, and athletics.

Most important, Heritage Hall focuses on and celebrates its people. Recently, our community had occasion to do just that when the National Federation of State High School Associations recognized boys’ tennis Head Coach Brian Bogert (Heritage Hall Class of 1995) as the Boys’ Tennis Coach of the Year for Oklahoma. In addition, he also won Regional Coach of the Year and is one of eight National Coach of the Year finalists.

These impressive honors follow a stellar four-year state championship streak for boys’ 5A tennis; this year’s team is looking to make it five. “Winning the School’s fourth straight state title was huge, and we haven’t slowed down or stopped working hard since,” said Alexander Nguyen ’20. “Coach Bogert pushes us hard every day — making sure we put in 100 percent. We are fortunate to play for a coach who knows how to build championship teams year in and year out,” Nguyen added.

Under the combined leadership of Bogert and assistant coaches Logon Collins, Chris Haworth, and Luke Howard ’12, this year’s team – consisting of veterans Eric Abbott ’18, Brenden Baird ’21, Josh Cohlmia ’18, Trey Huelskamp ’18, Wesley Jansen ’21, Alex Nguyen ’20,  and Lucia Rutz – there is reason to be optimistic about adding more hardware to the trophy cases.

Please join me in congratulating Coach Bogert and cheering on the Chargers!
