Heritage Hall is pleased to announce the appointment of Teresa Turner as the School’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion.
Turner will head the School’s Diversity and Inclusion initiatives to expand diversity awareness, promote inclusivity, and enrich the educational experience of all students. She will be assisted by Whittney Darko and Corry Smith, Associate Directors of Diversity and Inclusion in the Lower and Middle School divisions, respectively.
Turner succeeds Michael McDaniel as Heritage Hall’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion. McDaniel observed, “Teresa Turner possesses the qualities to interact with a diverse group of people and the knowledge to problem-solve and advance conversations, even about issues that can be divisive. I have every confidence that she and her exceptional team will take this program far beyond what any of us could have imagined when it first began.”
With the addition of Turner, who will maintain a presence in the Upper School, all three divisions will have representation from the School’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. The committee – comprised of faculty and administrative staff from each division – collaborates with various members of the Heritage Hall community to create curricula and programs that advance the School’s mission to promote, celebrate, and serve all members of our community.
Turner holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in guidance and counseling from The University of Oklahoma, where she served more than 20 years in Athletics Student Life, most recently as Director of Student-Athlete Experience.
“Teresa brings to Heritage Hall a wealth of experience in monitoring and promoting student welfare, supporting student exploration of interests and aptitudes, and working collaboratively to develop and implement programs,” stated Assistant Head of School Nick Carter.
“As we focus on our emerging positive education initiative, Heritage Hall is fortunate to have Teresa as part of the team that will help guide diversity education, which is integral to the growth of all other components of a positive educational culture,” Carter added.
Happy to be joining the Heritage Hall community, Turner remarked, “I am excited and look forward to assisting the School in fulfilling its diversity and inclusion initiatives.”
