Support

Annual Fund

The Annual Fund is an investment in excellence that has a direct impact on the people and programs that distinguish a Heritage Hall education — talented faculty; vital and inspiring academics; unique educational opportunities; campus, security, and classroom enhancements; and financial assistance. Each gift to the Annual Fund — no matter the size —makes a difference in the lives of our students and faculty every day. It is the one campaign we ask everyone to support each year, and all gifts are 100% tax-deductible.

  • Gift by credit card

The way you send your gift (mail/ship, phone, online) determines the deadline since your credit card gift is effective for tax purposes on the date the card is charged (processed by Gift Accounting).
You may prefer to make your gift online or by telephone to ensure your credit card gift is processed in time to count for the 2022 calendar year for tax purposes. See below for those deadlines.
    Credit card gifts online
    • Deadline is 11:59 p.m. (Central Standard Time) on Saturday, December 31, 2022.
    • Make your gift using our secure online giving form
  • Gift of securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds)

    Gifting stocks, bonds, mutual funds
    • Gifts of securities (stocks, bonds, and mutual funds) require planning. The effective date of your gift for tax purposes depends upon how you deliver the gift.
    • The amount of your charitable deduction depends on the value of the securities at the time the gift is complete.
    • Mutual fund gifts: Start early to determine the fund’s processing time which varies widely from fund to fund. Some can complete your transfer within days of receiving your instructions; some take six weeks or more.
    • For all gifts of securities: Please email stock transfer to Director of Development or call 405-936-3109.
    Hand delivery
    • Your hand-delivered gift of securities is effective on the date received by Heritage Hall.

    U.S. Postal Service
    • Your gift of securities mailed via U.S. Postal Service is effective as of the postmark date. If you mail the stock certificates and related paperwork in two envelopes (see below) the latter of the two postmarks is used.
    • It is safest to sign a stock power and not sign the actual stock certificate(s). So, instead of signing your actual stock certificate, please obtain a medallion signature guarantee for your signature on a stock power and mail the stock power and a letter of authorization together in one envelope. The unendorsed stock certificate should be mailed in a separate envelope. Your gift will be effective as of the later of the two postmark dates.
    • Deadline: Latest postmark on materials mailed via USPS must be on or before December 31, 2022.
    • Mail to Heritage Hall, Attn: Development at the address below.
Shipping services (FedEx, UPS, or other shipping service)
    • Heritage Hall considers your gift of securities sent by a private shipping company such as FedEx or UPS to be effective when received at Heritage Hall. Because IRS regulations are unclear about whether a gift sent by private shipping service is effective as of the date sent or when received, Heritage Hall’s deadline ensures your gift will be effective for the 2022 calendar year for tax purposes.
    • Deadline: Your gift must be received at Heritage Hall by 4 p.m., on Friday, December 30, 2022.
    • Ship to Heritage Hall, Attn: Development at the address below.
The address for hand delivery, mailing, or shipping your gift of securities:

    Heritage Hall

    Electronic securities transfer
    • Your electronic transfer of securities from a brokerage account is complete when the securities have been received by an account owned by Heritage Hall. Important: These gifts are not considered complete upon giving instructions to a broker.
    • Your electronic transfer gift is counted for tax purposes only when it is complete (see above).
    • Initiate your transfer early. It is wise to allow several weeks. While some transfers may be received within days of your instructions, longer delays are possible. For example, mutual funds generally take much longer to transfer than individual stocks.
    • Deadline: Your electronic transfer must be received by 11:59 p.m., on Saturday, December 31, 2022.

Why I Give

Annual Fund Frequently Asked Questions

List of 7 frequently asked questions.

  • What is the Annual Fund?

Each year, Heritage Hall asks trustees, current and former patrons, alumni, grandparents, and foundations to provide tax-deductible support for the School’s operating fund. Annual Fund revenue allows the School to enhance support for students and teachers and enables us to respond quickly to educational needs not covered in our annual operating budget. The Annual Fund also allows the School to take advantage of strategic opportunities as they arise, rather than fundraising sporadically as needs/wants become evident.
  • What is the difference between a capital campaign, the Annual Fund, and Booster Club campaigns?

Simply stated, Annual Fund gifts support stability now, while capital campaigns support growth in the future. Because annual funds are intentionally not allocated for athletic programs, our athletic booster clubs serve as special interest groups whose fundraising participants are limited to families of students involved in that activity. Academic Infrastructure dollars, provided by the Heritage Hall Annual Fund, are expressly not spent on our athletic program, which benefits from other sources of gift income.
  • What does the School expect of its families, both current and former?

While the School places no expectations on families in terms of financial support outside of meeting their obligations for tuition and fees, it is our ardent hope that constituents will choose to become and remain involved with the School through voluntary donations of time, money, or both.
  • We already pay tuition; why does the School ask us for contributions, too?

Annual Funds are considered a best practice among independent schools and universities who supplement their educational offerings each year with one-time purchases to enrich curriculum, the classroom environment, or improve campus safety and security for students.

For Heritage Hall, tuition and fees meet approximately 96% of the School’s core operating expenses. If tuition were increased to a level that corresponds to the actual cost of educating our students each year, the resulting increase would create a hardship for many families. The Annual Fund has been put into place to bridge this gap, picking up where tuition and fees leave off, to the benefit of every Heritage Hall student.
  • Do small gifts really make a difference?

Yes! All gifts are important and appreciated. You can choose to make a one-time donation or set up monthly, recurring gifts. Levels of giving are provided for your convenience, however, Heritage Hall encourages its community to make a gift that is meaningful for your family.
  • What else do I need to know about the Annual Fund?

    • The goal for the 2022-23 Annual Fund is $400,000.
    • The Annual Fund encompasses all constituents - Constituents include: trustees, alumni, current and past patrons, grandparents, faculty-staff, and friends.
    • The Annual Fund is a year-long campaign to support academic infrastructure and enhancements - Items are approved by the board of trustees and may change from year to year.
    • Annual Fund gifts are unrestricted. Gifts restricted to specific programs are not Annual Fund gifts - Examples of restricted gifts: athletics, performing arts, technology, etc.
    • A gift of $1,000 or more includes membership to the Leadership Society - During the 2015-16 campaign, nearly 87% of the total raised was given by donors at the Leadership Society level.
    • The fiscal year for Annual Fund pledges is July 1-June 30 - All pledges must be paid in full by June 30 of the fiscal year.
    • Annual Fund dollars are raised in the following ways: mail solicitations and personal solicitations.
  • My company offers a matching gifts program; would the School be interested in this program?

Absolutely! Matching gifts are an effective way to double or, in some cases, triple the amount of your gift. Please contact Jenifer Standish, Director of Development, at 405.936.3109 for more information on matching gifts.
